Niacinamide and Retinaldehyde

Niacinamide and Retinaldehyde, Better Together

Dr Garry Cussell

The short answer

Yes, niacinamide and retinaldehyde work well together. One helps prevent new pigmentation, the other helps correct pigmentation already there.

Rejuvaus formulates both in a lipid encapsulation so they're released slowly, deeply & progressively. You don't need to layer them or choose between them.

Two jobs, one goal

They aren't rivals. They work on different sides of pigmentation.

Prevents
Niacinamide

Vitamin B3 helps prevent new pigmentation from forming and calms the inflammatory triggers behind uneven tone.

+
Corrects
Retinaldehyde

A form of vitamin A that works on pigment already there, supporting skin renewal so marked cells turn over.

Most skincare keeps them apart

And that asks a lot of your skin.

The usual way

Separate bottles, layered and timed. Retinol kept to night only. A slow, cautious build-up to avoid stinging and redness, with the skin barrier often paying the price.

The Rejuvaus way

Both actives in one encapsulated serum, used morning and night. Still introduced slowly, but not restricted to the evening or kept apart.

Why encapsulation changes the rules

It holds each active in a slow-release form that stays stable and comfortable on the skin.

Encapsulated

Each active is held inside a protective shell that keeps it stable.

Released slowly

It reaches the skin gradually & more deeply so a meaningful dose stays gentle.

Day or night

Stable enough for morning and evening use, not just PM.

This is what lets the Repair & Refine ABC Serum carry vitamin A, B3 and C together in one bottle, used twice daily, instead of kept apart and limited to the evening.

You still introduce it slowly as your skin adjusts, you are simply not restricted to night or forced to separate the actives.

Already combined for you

Repair & Refine ABC Serum is the three vitamins in one.

A
Retinaldehyde
B3
Niacinamide
C
Kakadu plum
=
ABC
One serum

So the answer to "which one" is neither. You use both, in one serum, twice a day.
If pigmentation is your main concern, the Bright & Correct Niacinamide Serum adds a higher niacinamide dose alongside it.

Common questions

Reviewed by Dr Garry Cussell, skin specialist.

Can you use niacinamide and retinaldehyde together?

Yes. They do complementary jobs, niacinamide helps prevent new pigmentation while retinaldehyde helps correct existing pigmentation, and they are well tolerated together. In the Rejuvaus Repair & Refine ABC Serum they are formulated into one bottle, so there is no need to layer or separate them.

Can you use retinaldehyde in the morning?

In the Rejuvaus range, yes. The retinaldehyde is encapsulated, which keeps it stable and gentle enough for twice-daily use, so the ABC Serum is used morning and night. Conventional retinol is often kept to the evening because it is less stable in daylight.

Do you need to introduce retinaldehyde slowly?

It is still sensible to introduce any vitamin A gradually. Start with a small amount and build up as your skin adjusts. Encapsulation makes this easier, but easing in remains the best way to keep skin comfortable.

Is niacinamide or retinaldehyde better for pigmentation?

Neither on its own is the full answer. Niacinamide works on preventing new pigmentation, retinaldehyde on turning over pigment already present. Used together they address both, which is why Rejuvaus combines them rather than asking you to pick.

Can you use retinaldehyde if you are pregnant?

Vitamin A in the form of retinaldehyde is generally not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Speak to your doctor, and in the meantime niacinamide and vitamin C are gentler options for uneven tone.
